My best friend from high school, Alissa, and her daughter, Leia, came to visit us over the Labor Day weekend from Indy. It was great to meet her daughter for the first time, who is Gavin's age and catch up on what has been happening. We walked around Alexandria, went shopping, and went to bounce house with the kids. It was a great weekend.

Virginia Beach

Nestor's family rented a beach house at the end of August for a whole week. Nestor unfortunately was only able to go for a few days because he had to get back to his internship but I stayed with the kids the entire week. Gavin loved playing in the pool with his cousins but he loved the beach even more. He had no fear of running into the ocean and loved digging up the sand with his shovel. It was Gabe's first experience at the ocean. He did pretty well for being only 2 and 1/2 months old!

Nestor graduated from ECPI in June with a bachelor's in Network Security. He is currently finishing up his internship and we hope for a job offer within the next few weeks! Way to go Nestor!!!!

Gabriel Nestor Sandoval

I never posted on the blog that I was pregnant again but I was and the baby was suppose to be due July 20th.... of course that did not happen. At 4 am on June 2nd, I started feeling contractions. They started getting stronger and stronger so we decided to go to the hospital after calling the doctor. Luckily, Nestor's sister Grace was willing to pick up Gavin on the way to the hospital, which was 40 minutes away. The whole time in the car I thought I was about to have the baby because the pain was horrible. My sister was kind enough to talk to me during the trip. When we got to the labor and delivery room, the nurses could not find the heartbeat of the baby. They did a sonogram and could just make out a heartbeat. My doctor came in and saw what was happening and rushed me to the surgery room right then, leaving Nestor in the delivery room not knowing what was happening. It took 52 seconds for my doctor to perform my c-section ( a record for her) and get the baby out. Gabriel Nestor Sandoval was born at 6:42 am. He was not breathing at birth but was resuscitated and rushed to the NICU. Gabriel spent the next 3 weeks in the NICU under special care. We are blessed to have a healthy baby boy. My placenta had completely separated and that is way Gabe came so early. It was a rough start but now, 3 months later, we are all happy and love our growing family.
A huge thanks to our family and friends that helped out during our recovery!!! I especially want to thank my mother, who spent three long weeks driving me back and forth to the hospital, cleaning, cooking, and watching Gavin.

The past six months.....

I have been a big time slacker and have not posted anything for about six months. So many things have happened that I don't know where to begin. First of all, Nestor's computer crashed and then the back-up hard drive crashed so we don't have pictures right now from March until the end of April. In March we celebrated Gavin's first birthday with a monkey themed party. We had the party at Nestor's parents house and Nestor's mom made the most beautiful monkey cake for Gavin. I wish that I had to pictures to show. I hope we can recover them. In April Gavin and I went out to visit my family in Utah. We were hoping to be there for the birth of Olivia but unfortunately she wanted to stay a little longer in Sandra's belly. We still had a blast celebrating Easter and hanging out.

Christmas Time Fun!!

We stayed in Virginia for our Christmas break this year but we had the opportunity to do a lot during our week long break. We saw the Temple lights, had Christmas at Nestor's parents house, visited my Grandpa, Aunt Ruth and Uncle Marvin, and went to see the lights at the National Harbor. We spent New Year's at Sebastian's house, dancing the night away. Gavin stayed up for the big Christmas night that lasted until four in the morning. He had to take a nap but he got back up to see Santa Clause and open his presents. He loves Santa!!! Gavin didn't make it all the way for New's Year though, maybe next year!

Grace and Daniel's Wedding

Nestor's sister Grace married Daniel on December 11, 2010. They were married in Stafford and some of Nestor's aunts from Bolivia were able to attend which was very special for the family. Their wedding had some great Bolivian food and lots of dancing, which was nice because Nestor and I have not been able to dance in awhile.

Thanksgiving

We had the great opportunity to spend Thanksgiving with my family in Utah. We stayed at Matt and Michon's new home in Saint George. We stayed the first night in Vegas with my parents and then headed to Saint George the next morning. Gavin got to experience Vegas at a very early age....but he was not too impressed.
It was wonderful to just hang out with the family, do some shopping, and eat! Matt and Michon blessed their new little addition to family, Mason, in their home during the trip too. Mason is just precious! He was so animated and alert for being so young. It was a fun trip but it always makes me sad when I have to say good-bye, especially to all my cute nieces and nephews!

NFL 5K

Kami and I ran in the NFL 5K today at the National Harbor. It was a beautiful day for a run. Here is a picture after the race. It was Kami's first race and she did awesome. We came in at 25 minutes and 25 seconds!!! We hope to do more in the future.

Our little boy, Gavin, was a monkey for his first Halloween. Thanks Mom for the cute costume!!!!!! Nestor and I decided to go as pirates. Mili and Sebastian had a party at their house Saturday night and then we went trick or treating Sunday night at Grace's house. Gavin even made the trip out to trick or treat. He was watching intently and will definitely be ready next year to run house to house with his cousins. The hi-lights of the night was when Gavin decided to eat a banana whole (well, he was a monkey so what can you expect) and diving into the candy face first that his cousins dumped on the floor.

Our annual pumpkin carving with Nestor's family occurred this past Sunday. Nestor did all of the carving this year while I took care of Gavin. I think all the pumpkins turned out pretty cute!!! Gavin loved touching our pumpkin. It was pretty much his same size.

Gavin is a happy little boy, even though his pictures might not show that. He always looks so shocked when we take pictures but he really loves to laugh all of the time. He plays peek-a-boo with me in his crib at nights before he goes to bed. He loves trying to walk and would prefer doing that then sitting or trying to crawl. He almost has his sitting down to a perfection but he loves to look down at the ground and eat his toes still. Gavin loves to say "mmmmmm" when he eats his solid foods and is such a good little eater. We think his teeth should be coming anytime now because his gums are pretty sore.
Everyday is a new adventure with him and we love every minute of it.

Month of September

I started teaching at the beginning of the month and so life has been crazy! I am really blessed with some great classes this year along with an incredible new PE teacher named Tamika. We work really well together and I have learned so many new games. NO More rolling out the balls....finally!!!
Gavin turned 6 months on the 19th. He is such a good little boy! He sleeps 10 to 12 hours a night. You can just put him in the crib and he will fall asleep! He is 28 inches long and 18 pounds 14 ounces. He is almost sitting on his own and is on the verge of trying to crawl. Gavin loves to laugh and his daddy can make him laugh all the time. Nestor just has to give him a look! It is so cute!
Nestor's cousin, Pamela, had her first baby last week named Lucas Israel. We are so excited that Gavin will have another cousin his age to play with. From the pictures, Gavin was not too sure of baby Lucas!

California

Nestor, Gavin, and I went to visit Grandma and Grandpa in California. Nestor stayed for one week and I stayed with Gavin for an extra week. We were a little nervous to fly across the country with Gavin because we didn't know how he would be on the airplane but he was a champ. He slept pretty much the entire time and really only made a peep when he was hungry. He was also a big flirt with all the women on the airplane....this makes me a little nervous for when he gets older. LOL!

At Grandpa and Grandma's we went to Soak City Waterpark in Palm Springs, Huntington Beach, Balboa Island, and hung around the house for the first week. Matt came in that same week and we played some games with him, including an intense game of croquet.
When Nestor left, Laura and Carter came. They stayed the whole week with us until Brad surprised Laura on a romantic anniversary getaway to Mexico.
When Laura and Carter came we did a lot of shopping and went to Magic Mountain Amusement Park. We realized that when you have young children it is a lot harder to go out and about so we spent a lot of time around the house catching up with each other.
Of course, Grandma and Grandpa spoiled us and our children like crazy. Carter was also so sweet to Gavin and always had to check on him in the mornings and made sure that he had is pacifier.

Fabrisio's Wedding

At the end of July we attended one of Nestor's best friend's wedding in the DC Temple. Nestor was one of Fabrisio's best men in the wedding. It was a beautiful day and the couple looked very happy. Congrats!!!

Gavin at 4 months

So Gavin has hit 4th months!!!! He had his doctor's appointment earlier this week and did not take too well to the shots. Ever since the appointment he has not been sleeping through the night, which makes me sad. I think he has some teeth that are coming in and it is bugging him. You can see one that has popped up on the bottom gums. He still needs to gain better control of his head and loves to lean to his right side more. He is stubborn like his mom and I have to force him to use his other side. He is currently 15 pounds 11 ounces and 26 inches long. His favorite toy is Mr. Octopus and likes to talk to him and even sometimes give him the evil eye!
We just started feeding him rice cereal this week too and he ate it like a champ!!! He is such a good eater.....well what can I say.....he is half Bolivian so of course he is going to love his rice!!

Baltimore

Last Friday we went on a day trip to Baltimore. We went to the aquarium in the morning and then met up with Nestor's family in the afternoon to have dinner in little Italy and go to the drive-in movie theater, Bengies.

The aquarium was really nice and I especially liked the dolphin show. Gavin was pretty amazed too....he loved looking at the bright colored fish and watching the jumbo tv screens at the dolphin show.

Nestor's family has never been to a drive-in movie theater before and because they are such movie lovers I knew that I had to take them to one. The closest one is in Baltimore and it claims to be the largest screen in the country. Going to the drive-in brought back memories of going with my friends in high school, except this drive-in had too many house rules!! It was still a good time and we will go again.

This year we watched the fireworks at Quantico Marine Base by the lake. We went with Nestor's family and had a picnic before the fireworks began. We also played a lot of corn hole! Nestor and I are unstoppable at corn hole!!! I was a little worried that Gavin would be scared of the fireworks but he actually loved them. He sat on daddy's lap taking them all in!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL...............When you marry into a Latin family it is a given that you are going to watch the World Cup. The tv is always turned to some soccer game that is playing. On Saturday I hosted a World Cup party...USA vs. Ghana. Unfortunately the United States didn't win but we still had fun. Schools out for the summer!!!! Last week, I offically started summer break and I am so excited to spend 24/7 with my growing little boy! He is smiling and cooing all of the time and I love it! He also just started getting in his first tooth! He loves to stuff his whole fist into his mouth to help relieve the pain. My cute basketball players threw me a surprise baby shower this past week. They wanted to do it before I delivered but because Gavin came really early the plans had to change. They waited until we went on our field trip. They surprised me with silly string, birthday cake, and presents. It was really sweet and made me tear up! I love those girls!

Spirit of Washington Cruise

My co-worker Kristin Henry and I helped our girl's basketball and volleyball teams fundraise enough money to take the girls on a really nice end of the year field trip. We went a lunch cruise on the Spirit of Washington, which is a cruise boat that sails up and down the Potomac River. It was the most beautiful day for a lunch cruise. The girls had a blast eating at the buffet, standing out on the front deck, and dancing inside the boat! It will be an experience they will never forget and neither will I!

On Sunday, Gavin was blessed at Church. Unfortunately my family was not able to come but luckily since Nestor's family lives close by they were there. It was a very beautiful experience and made me realize how blessed I am for my small family. After church we grilled out at Sebastian's house and played games.

Aunt Jeannie and Uncle Pete Visit

We were spoiled this past weekend with a visit from Aunt Jeannie and Uncle Pete. We meet up with them in DC on Saturday. We took a really fun spy bus tour around DC and then went to the Spy Museum. After the museum we ate some really incredible food at Legal Seafood. Aunt Jeannie and Uncle Pete came to check out our townhouse and gave Gavin a present. The present was a stuffed mouse named TOPO, which dances around singing a song in Spanish. TOPO is a cartoon show that Nestor use to watch growing up. It was the perfect present.

A wonderful milestone occurred the other weekend....Gavin smiled at me for the first time. I mean really smiled at me and not just because of gas. That one smile was worth all the sleepless nights!
Gavin is 12 pounds 5 ounces currently...we had to adjust his car seat because he has gotten so big. I have attached his 1 week car seat picture and his current car seat picture. I can't believe that in just 2 1/2 months he has grown so much!!

Mike, Sandra, and Sofia Visit

We had the wonderful opportunity to have my brother and his family come visit for the weekend. It was there first time seeing Gavin and coming to our home. We introduced them to some Peruvian and Bolivian food while they were here and we also walked around the cute little town of Occoquan. It is always fun spending time with them and I wish that we could do it more often. I am still trying to get them to move out East. Maybe one day!

Today we took Gavin for his two month check up. He has doubled his birth weight, he is now 10 pounds 15 ounces and he is also 23 inches long. He has gotten so big! He is starting to smile a lot more, but that could be due to all the gas that he passes on a daily basis.
Here are some recent pictures of him. We were blessed with the opportunity to have Matt, Michon, Madi, and Michon's family come for a visit. Madi loves her cousin Gavin and she wanted to give him all the stuffed animals that she could find (as you can see in the pictures). She has the biggest heart and will be a great older sister to her little brother on the way. Just hid the stuffed animals.
Some of the other pictures are during Mother's day with Nestor's family. We tried getting pictures will all the cousins but that was a tough task!

Since Gavin came earlier than expected, Nestor's family was not able to throw our baby shower on the original date so they postponed it for us until April 17th. The co-ed shower was a ton of fun. There was lots of yummy food and really funny games. One of the games was for the boys to see who could drink all of the soda out of the bottle first. Another game had all the girls try to feed the boys baby food blindfolded. Nestor and I rocked at that game. Nestor, Gavin, and I want to thank Nestor's family for the great shower.

Here are some fun facts about Gavin at 3 weeks old.

1. He loves to use his hands and is very good at holding his pacifier

2. He is a good sleeper in the night! He sleeps about 4 to 5 hours before waking up for food and a diaper change.

3. He makes a lot of grumpy old man faces which are hilarious....hopefully this does not last long!

4. He can roll over to his side and actually loves to sleep on his side.

5. He likes to cross his legs and bring them up to his body when he sleeps.

6. He is very good at lifting his head!

I have been very blessed with such a wonderful family! My parents and sister had planned to come for the birth of Gavin on his original birth date in April but because Gavin came 5 weeks early the plans had to change. They all were very flexible and were able to come in right after he was born. They really helped with Gavin and making the transition of having a baby at home. It was a lot of fun to spend some time with my mother and sister touring DC too! Thanks for the help! We love you guys!

Gavin's First Bath!

So giving baths to a newborn is a very scary thing...My mother was able to help Nestor and I during Gavin's first bath. Even though it was just a sponge bath, it is still very scary because Gavin is a wiggle worm. He actually did a very good job during the whole process. He was sucking on his pacifier during the bath and then in the middle of the bath he takes the pacifier out of his mouth and throws it. It was hilarious! I told Nestor it was a no look pass and that he is going to be a great basketball player!

Gavin Comes Home!!!

After a week in the NIC Unit, Gavin was able to come home. We were so excited to finally take him home. It was really different to deliver a baby and then go home empty handed. We were able to set up Gavin's room and run some errands before he came home, which did make it nice. Thanks so much to my mother for helping set everything up before he came home.

Early Arrival.......It's a BOY!!!

Gavin Oliver Sandoval made his way into the world on Friday March 19, 2010 at 7:37 am. He weighed 5 lbs 12 oz and was 19 inches long. He came five weeks early and here is the story.....

Thursday night I was walking to my car to go to drive to my water aerobics class that I love so much. I was talking to my sister on the phone when all of a sudden I felt a gush down my legs. I told my sister that I thought my water broke and she told me to call the doctor. I went inside my house and looked down at my feet to see blood. I tried to call Nestor, who was at work at the time but was unsuccessful. I then called 911. When the EMT's got to my house I found out that my blood pressure was sky high. They took me straight to labor and delivery at Potomac Hospital, which was not the hospital that I was suppose to deliver my baby but it was the closest to my house. When the doctor checked me out I found out that I had preclampsia and that my placenta was disrupted. I was 3 centimeters dilated at that point. After 13 hours of labor I delivered a healthy baby boy. He was taken to the NIC Unit and is currently still there. He was having reflux and heart rate dips but in the past day he has not had any problems and we hope to have him home very soon!

Nestor's Birthday

Nestor turned 27 on the 11th of this month. I took him on a surprise date to get a massage and to the Melting Pot. Nestor has never had a professional massage before and has always wanted one. He really enjoyed the massage and all the yummy food that we cooked at the Melting Pot! On Sunday we celebrated his birthday with his family at Sebastian and Mili's house!

35 Weeks!!!!

Here are some recent pictures of my pregnancy! I am having a lot of swelling in my ankles and feet. I am lucky to have Nestor to massage them for me every night but I can barely fit into my shoes!!! I am so happy that I am a PE teacher and can wear athletic shoes everyday or else I don't know what I would do. Water aerobics is my new favorite activity because it really helps with the swelling and feels so good with my belly!

The Holidays

We got a nice surprise right before the Christmas break....17 inches of snow on the ground. This gave me a few extra days out of school. Nestor and I had to sweep the snow off the porch until Nestor's dad came to help shovel us out. We need to buy shovels. Being snowed in allowed us to get things done around the house, which was really nice. I was also able to make Nestor a Bolivian dish called Escabeche de Pollo. Yum Yum!
Nestor and I had the opportunity to spend time with my family out in Utah for the holidays. It was so wonderful to be able to spend almost two weeks with them. It is so hard to be away from them all, especially my nieces and nephew. I love them so much.
We spent Christmas Eve at Matt and Michon's house playing games and then had Christmas at Mike and Sandra's house. Of course Sandra was an amazing cook throughout the entire vacation and Nestor and I came home with a few extra pounds.
My sister planned a family baby shower for me, which was really sweet since we live so far away. She had some amazing games and of course the girls beat the boys in the pricing game!
During the time in Utah we were able to go to the Jordan River Temple, walk around Temple Square, go shopping, go to a Jazz basketball game, watch football, play games, take my Mom to get her make-up done and of course eat a whole lot. It was nice to relax and not have to worry about anything.
I had lots of time to play with my nieces and nephew and get to know them better. Madison, the oldest, loves to take pictures with a camera, tinkerbell, and watching her cartoons on tv. She is so caring and loving with Carter and Sofia. Carter actually follows her around everywhere she goes. It is too cute to see! She is so tall and I love it! She is going to be like her aunt Schelley!! Sofia has the most adorable smile in the world, she is pretty shy and quiet around other people,especially brown ones ;) and also she loves to dance. I love getting kisses from her! Sofia is like her aunt Schelley because she loves to hold her blanket and suck her thumb (Thanks Dad). Baby Carter also has such a cute smile, we love his teeth! My favorite things about Carter is when he laughs, puts his head down on stuff when he is tired,how he drops his pacifier out of mouth within three seconds of seeing food, and how Nestor taught him how to stick his tongue out. He is a very busy boy and wants to get into everything (very typical of a boy).

Anyhow, enough about my family! We had a blast and I can't wait to see them all when they come to Virginia when our baby is born.

Nestor and I had our own mini Christmas celebration when we got back from Utah. Nestor got me a bread machine and I am so excited to make bread all of the time!!!

So, my family and Nestor's family has known for awhile now but I still have not blogged the great news......I am pregnant! I am currently 22 weeks pregnant. I am feeling great now but the first trimester was bad because I felt sick every night. We are waiting to find out if the baby is going to be a boy or girl until she/he is born. It has been great to see the ultrasounds and now feel the baby moving everyday! Here are some pictures of my pregnant belly. The pictures in the white t-shirt was when I was 17 weeks and the pictures in the black dress is at 22 weeks. The baby is due in April!! We are so excited!!!!!

So, we have not posted on our blog in months! My laptop is having problems and will not turn on so I have not been able to save pictures for awhile. I am currently saving my pictures on Nestor's computer until I can get another computer.

Here are some tidbits about our life. Halloween was spent at Grace's house, Nestor made use of his Jamacian hat that he got on the cruise this summer and I was a devil. We went to a medieval dinner with our friends Jen and Aaron up in Maryland. It was a dinner and show with jousting and horses. It was a lot of fun and our knight was the winner! If you love meat, this is the place for you. Nestor and I went to see Daughtry live at George Mason University. We had never been to a concert together and this is one of Nestor's favorite bands. They are incredible live and Nestor had the time of his life! For Thanksgiving we went to Grace's house again and spent the day with Nestor's whole family including his cousins from Maryland. We are now gearing up for our trip to Utah to spend Christmas with my family!

So it has taken us a very long time to get through the renovations of our new townhouse but Nestor and I are very excited to finally be done. We of course still need to make a few changes in another bathroom and the basement rental kitchen but that will come in time. We are so excited to just enjoy our new place! Lots of thanks goes out to Nestor's Dad and Uncle for putting so much time and effort into the entire renovation process. Also to Sam for putting up the beautiful cabinets for us. We have been blessed to have such great people in our lives.
About our townhouse: It has four bedrooms, 3 and 1/2 bathrooms on three levels. We are currently renting the basement out, which has a full bathroom, kitchen, living room, and bedroom. We didn't add any pictures of the basement because of privacy to the renter. When we make changes down there I will add updated pictures.

In September Nestor and I surprised his Dad and Uncle for their birthdays by taking them to a DC United Soccer game. They love soccer and have not seen a live game since living in Bolivia. The stadium was not as full as it would be in South America but it was still a lot of fun. Nestor's Dad and Uncle could not stop smiling the entire time....it was wonderful.

Western Caribbean Cruise

Nestor and I had the opportunity to take another cruise this past week. We loved our cruise experience last year and couldn't turn down another opportunity to cruise. This time we took the Freedom of the Seas cruise boat. It was a lot like our boat from last year but it had a few different upgrades. It one of the largest boats cruising currently and is beautiful inside. Since we went to the Eastern Caribbean last year we decided to go to the Western this year. The boat has awesome food, incredible shows, and lots fun activites that kept us entertained the entire week!!

Labadee, Haiti

Our first island stop was a private part of Haiti called Labadee. We had to ride a small boat from the cruise boat to get to the island because we could not dock. The island was very beautiful and we relaxed most of the day by the ocean. They had a bbq and a band playing at lunch time. There was a small outdoor market area where the locals sold their handmade items.

Jamaica

Our second stop on the trip was to Ochos Rios, Jamaica. We took an excursion to Dunn River Fall's, which was a giant falls that led into the Caribbean Ocean. We went with our friends Kami and Hank on this adventure. As you climb the falls you always hold the person's hand in front of you and behind you so that if you fall they can help you up. Of course, me being klutzy Schelley, fell and was lucky to be holding Nestor's hand or I would have fallen all the way down. It was beautiful and we wished that we had more time to hang out there. After the hike we shopped at the Jamaican stores and of course Nestor had to get the Bob Marley hat. He must have fit in with the locals because he was offered weed several times. Yea Mon, as they say.
It was a very poor island and extremely sad to see the people begging for money by the boat. It was hard not to give them all that we had.

Grand Cayman

Our third stop was Grand Cayman Island, or as our tour guide called it....Paradise. We would have to say that Grand Cayman Island was the most beautiful island of all the ones that we went to on the cruise. It had the clearest water and the best beaches. We booked a snorkeling and stingray city excursion. We took a boat out into the beautiful ocean and made our first stop to snorkel around coral reef. There was some pretty purple coral reef but other than that it was not that impressive. We got back in the boat to make the next stop to snorkel some more. At this point the water was very choppy and I was starting to get sea sick. I told Nestor that he should go snorkel and tell me if I am missing anything. He went out but said that there was not that much to see. We then headed to Stingray City. I thought Stingray City was going to be right next to the beach but it was actually right in the middle of the ocean. It was crazy to think that the water was only about 4 feet deep in the middle of the ocean. The water was perfectly clean and you could see all the stingray swimming around. They were huge. We got out and walked around. They swam next to you and would rub up against you. I would scream when I didn't see them coming and they rubbed up against me. I held Nestor's hand the whole entire time. We both held a stingray and Nestor even gave one a kiss. He is suppose to get 7 years of good luck. We will see. I would recommend only going to Stingray City and skip the snorkeling. It was a fun but scary experience.

Cozumel

Our last stop was Cozumel, Mexico. We were very excited to stop there because we heard there was good snorkeling and we love to snorkel. We went to a beach called the money bar, which was suppose to have the best snorkeling there. It was a cute little place with lots of places to relax in the sun after snorkeling. It didn't really get too busy either. We went in the water and was pleased to find lots of fish but not as many as when we went snorkeling at isla mujeres, off cancun. Well, unfornately on the way back to land we lost our underwater camera. So we lost all the pictures that we had taken at all the other islands. Nestor has some really good ones too. So if you ever go to Cozumel and snorkel at the money bar, please be on the look out for an underwater camera. On our way back into town we ran into my friend, Sandy Hoffman, and her daughter Britney. That was crazy, what a small world. We hung out for awhile and then Nestor and I headed into towards the shops to do some bartering.

Last day of the cruise

On the last day of the cruise we were at sea all day. We took advantage of being on the boat all day by doing all the activities that we had not done yet. We did the flow rider, rock climbing, ice skating, played basketball, dodgeball, played in the pool, ate in the formal dining hall, and took in some shows. It was the perfect last day at sea.

On July 15, 2009, we closed on our first home. After much house hunting....we found the perfect first home. We have been busy the past month renovating the kitchen and master bath. So I surprised Nestor Friday morning on a special date....I took him to a marina in Alexandria to go bike riding. He has not been biking since his mission. There is a trail that leads from Mount Vernon to Georgetown called the Mount Vernon Trail. It is actually the trail that went past our wedding reception site. We rented the bikes from a marina in Alexandria. When we first took off Nestor was kicking my butt and of course as a very competitive person I was frustrated. I was out of breath pedaling the bike and not going very fast. Nestor was kind and switched me bikes and then he realized the pain that I was going through. He was a good sport and rode the bike the rest of the way back. It was a beautiful day and we traveled to Georgetown and back. We were able to see all the monuments, Reagan Airport, and Potomac River on the ride. The marina was very kind and didn't make us pay because the bikes were in such bad condition. Yeah!! We finished off the date by gaining all the calories we lost at The Great American Steak House, a buffet.

On July 3rd, Nestor and I went to Kings Dominion with Nestor's family. I thought it was going to be so busy because it was the day before the 4th of July but it actually was not. Kings Dominion's lines are so much shorter than what I was use to with Kings Island in Ohio. The weather was perfect too. We spent a lot of the time in the waterpark. Cancun......So I was a little hesitant about booking a vacation to Cancun because I always associate Cancun with college students/spring break. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to Cancun though. The hotel zone in Cancun was very clean and really nice but the ocean took the cake with the amazing blue waters. We stayed at the Royal Sunset Resort. We were able to take a ferry across the lagoon to the sister hotel to use the amenities there too. During our stay we went sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, and to the Mayan ruins in Tulum. Our favorite parts were Tulum and the snorkeling on the small island called Isla Mujeres (women's island, yes I am learning spanish). The snorkeling was incredible....the fish we saw were so amazing and unique. We are very thankful for this past year together and are really looking forward to the years to come. We are extremely blessed.

So,it is hard to believe that in a week we will be celebrating our 1st Wedding Anniversary! Time has flown by and we are loving life and being together. We are excited to be able to go celebrate our 1st Anniversary in Cancun, Mexico. Nestor says that he is amazed by the amount trips that we have taken together since we have been together. I think I get the traveling bug from parents.....I love seeing new places and it is perfect that I married Nestor because his name literally means "traveler". So we are excited to see the world together, one place at a time.

Spring Break in California

Nestor and I spent a wonderful week in California with my parents. This was the first time that Nestor has ever been to California so we did the tourist thing. We traveled down to San Diego and all the way up to Hollywood. We hit about every beach in between. The weather was beautiful but the water was pretty cold. My mother was a great sport and was our tour guide for the entire trip!!! Other than the windy, narrow, and steep mountain trip to Laguana Beach, I think she enjoyed it too. The mountain drive was Nestor's favorite part of the trip, though.

The Baller

Nestor and his fellow teammates from the Spanish Ward and Woodbridge Ward won the Woodbridge Stake basketball championship last weekend by one point, 61-60. Nestor made the game winning free throw. Nestor's Birthday

Nestor's birthday was on March 11th. I wanted to do something special for his b-day so I took him on a surprise trip to Williamsburg. We spent the night at the Great Wolf Lodge, which is hotel with an indoor waterpark. It was such a blast. It had waterslides, wave pool,lazy river, and the flowrider. We spent all evening and the next day in the waterpark. We had lunch and dinner at cute little cafes near William and Mary College. It was the perfect little get away. We then celebrated Nestor's birthday again with his family over the weekend. They of course spoiled him with lots of presents!!

I made Nestor breakfast in bed for Valentines....yummy cinnamon rolls. I bought him some snorkeling gear for when we go to Cancun/Cozumel this summer. He bought me a cute teddy bear, flowers, and chocolates. He wanted to give me all the items that you usually get on Valentines because he has not ever done that before. We had a wonderful dinner at Carabba's which is now Nestor's favorite restaurant!

Another year has passed and it is hard to believe that I am 27!!!! Nestor took me out for a surprise dinner with friends at a Brazilian steakhouse called Charbroil Grill. Nestor and I were in heaven!! It was delicious!!! Afterwards we went back to our place to play games and eat cake and ice cream. The perfect night!! The next day we celebrated my birthday with Nestor's family. Nestor's mom made one of her famous cakes and my favorite Bolivian dinner, picante de pollo! Yum Yum I was spoiled!!!

The last roommate takes the plunge. Dianna, Beth, and I have been planning weddings for over a year for now and that has finally come to a close with Beth's wedding. Beth and Andrew were married in Gettysburg, PA on January 18th. The wedding was at the college where they met. It was a beautiful wedding and Beth looked incredible. Nestor and I made a vacation of it by touring Gettysburg the next day before heading back home.

Nestor and I wanted to go somewhere during our Christmas Break together and so we decided to go to Phily! Nestor was really craving a Phily cheesesteak and had never been to Phily before so it was a perfect place to go. Last Friday morning we headed up to Phily and it only took us about 2 and 1/2 hours. It was a chilly day but that did not ruin our fun. Let me tell you, if you decide to travel to Phily you might want to take a bus because of the following reasons:
1. Tolls
2. Parking
3. People can't drive or park in Phily
We were able to see the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House, Elfreth's Alley (old's residential alley in the United States, Love Park, and the Rocky Steps/statue before heading to get our Phily cheesesteak. Pat's the King of Steaks is suppose to be the original cheesesteak place so we ate there. The cheesesteak had nacho cheese sauce on it, which is suppose to be the orginal. It was pretty good but I prefered Jim's cheesesteak house in Phily because it had more to offer. Overall, we had a blast traveling to Phily!!

Nestor and I spent a fun and exciting New Year's Eve with our friends. We went over to Kami and Hank's house to play some games and then went to a Latin dance around 10 pm at Nestor's parent's church building. Nestor and I have not really Latin danced since our Honeymoon. It has been forever! It was a blast! We were able to meet up with some other friends at the dance. Afterwards we went back to Kami and Hanks to finish up our game playing! What a great way to ring in the New Year! We want to wish our family and friends a Happy 2009.

Our First Christmas

Our very first Christmas as a married couple was spent in Virginia at Nestor's parents house. We started the celebration at midnight. We had a nice pork chop dinner followed by singing and spiritual messages on the Savior. Nestor and I contributed by creating a puppet show of the nativity for Lucas and Victoria. I then helped Lucas and Victoria decorate cookies for Santa Claus who would be coming later. Lucas and Victoria were very excited for Santa and couldn't stop talking about him. Lucas even used my cell phone to call him a couple of times. Very Cute!!! Santa (Nestor's Dad) finally arrived through the back door of the house. Lucas and Victoria were scared to death and refused to sit on his lap, Victoria covered her eyes the entire time. After Santa left the family started open presents. There were tons of presents under the tree and we didn't finish unwrapping presents until 4 am. The next morning we woke up around 10 am to make the Christmas breakfast. Nestor and I then hung out with his family and cousins most of the day.
We then packed up and went home to have our own celebration as our family. We opened our stockings by the Christmas tree. It was a wonderful first Christmas!!!

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....Nestor and I attended his annual work Christmas Party at the Marriott in DC. We stuffed ourselves with some really yummy food. Those lawyers really know how to throw a party. We also went to the Temple to see the lights and Nativity Scene. A DC handbell group performed that same night, which was a nice treat.

Our first Thanksgiving together as a married couple was spent in Utah with my family. The Wednesday night before Thanksgiving we arrived in Utah and ate at The Mayan, which is a restaurant with cliff divers. Thanksgiving day was spent playing tackle football, eating lots of great turkey from Sandra, and going to the flowrider(indoor surfing). Lets just say the next morning left us very sore from football and surfing. We were also extremely tired too because we went shopping in Park City at midnight and then continued shopping until 7 am. Nestor was able to get a brand new laptop at Best Buy during the black friday sales. Friday we spent sleeping in and playing games at Mike's house. Saturday was the big baby shower for Laura. It was a clothesline theme and we all made bibs for baby Carter. We had to fly back home on Sunday, which of course made me so sad. It was a short but wonderful visit! We miss you guys!!!!

Election Day!!!!

Nestor and I woke up at 5:20 am on Election Day in order to get a good place in line at the polls. It took us an hour and half waiting in line before we could vote. This was a very exciting Election because it was the first time that Nestor was able to vote. To celebrate this wonderful day, I made democrat cake (thanks mom for the recipe) and we shared with all of our basketball friends at church that night!

Going Country

Nestor and I headed up to Buck Valley, PA with my Dad two weekends ago to visit the farm. My father and his cousins had to get the 100 acres of farmland surveyed. Nestor and I wondered around the farm in our cousin's jeep and by the end of the trip I almost had Nestor convinced to move to the country!! Yee-hah!!!!

Dianna my former roommate finally tied the knot on Sunday!!! Aaron and Dianna had a sunset wedding at a beautiful country club in Haymarket, Virginia. Dianna looked stunning and the evening was very elegant. It was one of the best wedding venues that we have been to in the DC area, so if anyone is looking for a site that would be the place.

Luray Caverns

Nestor and I had a fun filled date at Luray Caverns on Saturday. The Caverns were a little less than 2 hours away but it was worth the drive. The drive was enjoyable with the leaves on the trees changing colors for the fall. As you can see our favorite part of the tour was taking funny pictures with the stalagmites and stalagtites.

Just another wedding in the life of Nestor and Schelley. It seems as though we go to a wedding every other weekend but they are finally slowing down. Kami and Hank were married in the DC Temple on Friday and then had a Cambodian Reception on Saturday. As bridesmaids we had to wear special Cambodian dresses for the reception along with our normal bridesmaids dresses. Kami changed in three different dresses for the wedding reception. Nestor and I really enjoyed learning how to dance the Cambodian dances. It is all about the hands!!!

Dad came out to DC for a business trip yesterday and we met up at his very posh hotel. It was huge!!!! There are about five restaurants in the hotel along with beautiful pool and gigantic fitness center. We ate at the italian restaurant inside the atrium. Inside the atrium is a large fountain which displays a watershow every hour just like in Vegas. The hotel sits overlooking the potomac river. Isn't it nice to be a government worker!!

On Tuesday night, Dad and I went to the most famous chili place in DC called Ben's Chili Bowl. It has been around since the 1950's and it is Bill Cosby's favorite place to eat. It was good eaten!!!!
